Dear Staff Members, Parents, and Community Members,
The purpose of tonight’s Special Board Meeting was to provisionally appoint a trustee that would fill the seat vacated by Trustee Kaarin Hardy who resigned effective today in order to move with her family to Singapore. We thank Trustee Hardy for her service and wish her and her family the very best.
The Board interviewed eight qualified, committed, and caring community members who have all been involved with the Hillsborough City School District, some of them very deeply and for many years.
After the interviews, the Board deliberated and then accepted public comment. The Board then unanimously and enthusiastically appointed Gilbert Wai, effective immediately.
Trustee Wai has served as the West Parent Group President, West School Site Council Chair, and the Strategic Planning Chair for the Hillsborough Schools Foundation. He also served on the HCSD Citizen’s Financial Review Commission, and served on the Planning Committee for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration for three years. He has been an active part of the school district since 1999, has a daughter at Point Loma Nazarene University, and a son at Crocker.
Trustee Wai is a technology executive and entrepreneur with over thirty years of experience. He has hired, led, and evaluated teams which created innovative products. Trustee Wai has also established and executed strategic plans for teams and companies. While in a leadership role, two companies of which he was a part completed their initial public offerings, and another company was purchased by Agilent Technologies.
When he is not spending time with his family or volunteering in our schools, he is active in his church helping people with their career transitions.
We know you join us in welcoming Trustee Wai to our team!
Warmly,
President Lynne Esselstein, on behalf of the HCSD Board of Trustees
